What to "See and Do" in the Wick area

Wick was once the busiest herring port in Europe and there are many places where you can find old photographs showing the herring industry at its height.

Wick has a half-day every Wednesday.

Wick Heritage Centre

Incredible selection of artefacts, a wonderful herring fishing section - depicting the herring boom of the early 19th century and much more to see. I would suggest setting aside as much time as possible for this as you will wish that you had more time to see it all!

Wick Old Parish Church

In the church yard you will see the ruins of an old (13th century) Chapel.  This is the Chapel of St. Fergus who is the Patron Saint of Wick.  You can see an effigy of St. Fergus in the Wick Library.

Wick Old Parish Church has been featured on "Songs of Praise" and is supposed to have the widest unsupported roof span of any church in Scotland.

The Pilot House

The Pilot House looks out over Wick Bay.  You can usually see people sitting passing the time of day here now.  It used to be used by the Pilots who skippered the Pilot Boats to guide vessels in to Wick Harbour.
